We’ve waited so long and now it’s finally here! Holiday Season!
When the weather is fine at home or in some far-flung location, there’s only one thing we’ve got on my mind: WHAT TO WEAR!
Swimming is a great feel-good form of exercise, with lounging by the pool a close second! But you may be hesitant at the thought of wearing swimwear after your mastectomy. By investing in mastectomy swimsuits and bikinis with pockets, you can be confident that the pockets will securely and discreetly hold your swim prosthesis.
Once you've bought a mastectomy bikini, you'll want to look your best in it. Knowing what to wear with your new swimwear can be a challenge! Whatever you are doing or going, don’t stress out, because our summer swimwear style tips are here to help!
I’ve been creating the ultimate looks to help you to look good outside and feel great inside in mastectomy swimwear on tropical trips to poolside parties.
Here’s how I style the La Victoire bikini for a 'Hot Tropics' look.
This fabulous magenta nail lacquer is a summer must-have.
This vibrant luscious pink crème colour (Kiss Me I'm Brazilian Nail Polish by O.P.I.) is the perfect summer shade to wear with our Pink and Red La Victoire Bikini, and it will cheer you up whenever you glance at your hands.
TIP: Having a gel or shellac manicure on holiday will protect your keep nails and keep them looking glamorous.
Many women are hesitant about wearing a bikini because they show too much of their midriff. Fear not! The La Victoire mastectomy bikini's high-low waistband can be worn fold up or down, meaning you can choose how much you want to show. Perfect for covering up stomach scars from fat-grafting or DIEP breast reconstruction, C-section or stretch marks. Perfect if you still want to wear a bikini, yet are not quite ready to show off your tummy. But if you are, the waistband easily rolls down to reveal more skin to get a gorgeous tan on.
The bikini's clever straps unhook and can be wrapped round behind to become a strapless bandeau, perfect for getting the sun on your gorgeous shoulders. Then when you’re ready, the bikini top can also can be worn as halter-neck, cross back for more security when you’re swimming, as well as the standard straight-over-the-shoulder strap.
Tip: Have fun combining the different ways to wear the top with the adjustable bottoms and you'll never get bored of wearing this swimwear fashion piece.
Sunglasses protect your sensitive eyes from pollution and dust, and help you cope with the effects of breast cancer treatment too. It’s essential to protect your eyes after chemotherapy, as this treatment can make your eyes photo-sensitive to daylight.
Another plus point is that sunglasses are practical when you don’t want to wear makeup and are great at concealing missing eyebrows and lashes too.
Cat eye shaped sunglasses are a trend that just is not going anywhere! This is why investing in a quality pair is money well spent. These simple and elegant cat eye glasses below are by Fendi. For a similar pair that is more affordable but equally gorgeous, are these by Anine Bing.
And remember, your sunglasses are not just for summer and are helpful in the winter when the sun is low in the sky, so feel free to rock your eye style all year round!
CLOVER’S TIP: Choose sunglasses to enhance your skin tone: lighter colours which can be flattering against white skin, and darker shades can compliment you with darker skin tones.
Luxury Silk Scarf
A bright & beautiful scarf has so many uses on holiday, so is a worthwhile investment.
CLOVER’S TIP: Heat can affect lymphedema. If you have this, protect yourself by keeping your arms out of direct sun. Choose a luxury scarf like the Warner Scarf by Pipet Design to stylishly over your arms. Silk is soft, fresh and is perfect for covering up by the pool or when out and about sightseeing!
Transparent Beach Bag
Fashionable and waterproof, we LOVE a transparent beach bag or tote (below, bottom right) as the perfect companion for a holiday outing, summer beach trip, or to keep your essentials for an extended stay at the pool.
Choose one with a zipper closure for added security. Or look out for one with an internal pouch if you want to conceal personal items so you can place personal things (like your keys, phone, iPad or Kindle, sunscreen, snacks and cosmetics).
An internal pouch can also be useful for storing your wet mastectomy bikini or swimsuit until you get back to the hotel - but do remember to remove it and give it a gentle wash!

Clover ~ Creator of Clover Lewis Swimwear
Clover started designing mastectomy swimsuits and bikinis after struggling to find a stylish, beautiful post-surgery bikini to wear on her first holiday after a breast cancer diagnosis. The holiday? A trip to Bali to overcome her fears by learning how to scuba-dive.
She made her first mastectomy bikini, got her PADI diving certificate wearing it, at that moment personally realised the connections between body image, clothing confidence for women with breast cancer.
So despite the expectation to carry on with “life as normal” after cancer, this experience had a profound effect on Clover. It became the fuel for her mission creating beautiful swimwear for women to feel good about their bodies so they can swim again.
Through Clover Lewis Swimwear, Clover helps women feel body confident… and feel like they belong on a beach.
