Class of 99: Wear Sunscreen

Clover's Tip:  Always wear suncreen.

I absolutely adore sunshine. Whether I'm seeking  it in my garden on a long, lazy summer's day, or have flown away for some 'intentional sunshine' in warmer climes, I always feel happier, the world feels brighter and life feels a bit more special with the help of sunshine.

And, like the great 90's song Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) goes, I always wear sunscreen. Always, and not just on holiday.

I apply a daily layer when I'm at home in the UK too. Like the food that I put in my body, I am selective about what I put on my body too. So I take care when choosing my daily sun protection.

This is because many of the skincare products we have readily available (and are available cheaply) may not be made to be the best for our bodies.

During my recent search for a healthy alternative to off-the-shelf sunscreen, a friend kindly introduced to a new product called  Ringana’s SPF20 Sun Protection Balm.

I was immediately impressed! It is very rich in texture, but is not too heavy to clog your pores. It's waterproof which so useful when swimming or if you're prone to having hot flushes. And because it uses natural mineral sun protection filters, its perfect for anyone who wants to avoid synthetic UV filters.

Being SPF 20, you can still develop an even, healthy tan while safely catching some vitamin D from the sun's rays  - which many scientists say is an important vitamin for the prevention of breast cancer. More like a luxurious moisturiser than a sunscreen, super easy to put on,  and a little goes a long way.

This beautiful sun balm is a staple in my travel bag and a lovely bit of indulgent self-care. ~ Clover

Protecting your skin from strong sun exposure by covering up and staying in the shade is super important. The best sun protection is being sensible in the sun and avoiding prolonged exposure. But for those of you who, like me, love the healing feeling of the sunshine on your skin, Ringala's SPF 20 sun protection balm is a great start.

Enjoy the sunshine wherever you are!

With warmth, Clover

Clover, Creator of Clover Lewis Swimwear

Clover started designing mastectomy swimsuits and bikinis after struggling to find a stylish, beautiful post-surgery bikini to wear on her first holiday after a breast cancer diagnosis. The holiday? A trip to Bali to overcome her fears by learning how to scuba-dive.

She made her first mastectomy bikini, got her PADI diving certificate wearing it, at that moment personally realised the connections between body image, clothing confidence for women with breast cancer.

So despite the expectation to carry on with “life as normal” after cancer, this experience had a profound effect on Clover. It became the fuel for her mission creating beautiful swimwear for women to feel good about their bodies so they can swim again.

Through Clover Lewis Swimwear, Clover helps women feel body confident… and feel like they belong on a beach.
